Landscape Garden Design in South West London

Woodland Garden, Streatham, SW16

The client had a strong connection with the space and clearly had an interest in plants. The practicalities of the North facing site and significant curving lawn had proved too much of an undertaking to maintain. Over time the garden had become overgrown and unmanageable.

After consultation the vision was to create a garden with a woodland feel to journey through. We were to remove the lawn and replace with a curving path meandering through two deep and well stocked beds to a secluded patio at the rear of the garden. As well as a new patio at the rear of the garden we were to create a new stylish, lounging and entertainment space to the rear of the property.

In order to achieve the look, we needed to clear the garden of anything that was not performing and had seen better days, such as the old fence panels, over grown and intrusive plants, as well as re shaping, re positioning the plants we wished to keep.

Ground works began by lifting old patio spaces and removing the lawn before shaping the new winding bound gravel path and construction commenced on the patio areas. New timber slatted panels were installed replacing a well weathered boundary fence. The woodland planting scheme consisted of Dryopteris, Carex pendula, Digitalis and Anemone x hybrid ‘Honorine Jobert, Hydrangea petiolaris.’
